Here is a poem that has been swirling around my head for a few days. When I read what the prompt was it just seemed to fit in with the fragments that were already floating around in me.
Enjoy!
Memories crash around me
like stormy ocean waves
knocking me over
Unable to escape the battering
I succumb
As the pictures
of things past
flash across my mind
The willow tree
where we sat talking and laughing
unaware of things to come
Starless nights
dancing
under the moon
just you and me
The many gifts
you so tenderly gave
The one I cherish the most
is the gift you gave
the day you went away
That single white ribbon
wrapped in flowered paper
Now wrapped
around your letters
written so long ago
A symbol of our past
those now frayed ribbons
Almost whole yet not
they symbolize
our memories
and what could have been
before the day
our lives fell apart leaving
only....
